Weather Radios

posted Apr 13, 2016 11:18:52 by Jenny Vance
Living in a hurricane zone, I have often thought about getting a weather radio. However, I think I will explore a ham before I buy anything. It seems you could connect better and be better informed with live bodies than you could a weather radio. http://hamchatforum.com has some really good information on what I might need in the event of a hurricane. Do any of you ham operators have any suggestions?

That is interesting information. I thought weather reports are just part of programs in general radios, so I didn't expect to see specific channel and receiver only for weather. I can imagine how it will be useful for those who live in areas with unpredictable weather. I read sometimes it also reports natural disasters which are very helpful.

I will have to check out that information. We don't usually get hurricanes, but after Irene and Sandy, it is now something we have to keep an eye on. Plus, we also get blizzards and ice storms that knock out power. It would be a good part of the preparedness process.
