Sleep?

I am just curious how much sleep the majority of people are actually getting. I know that the recommended amount is 8 hours; however, I have found that I sleep much less than that amount on some days and on others I sleep well over that amount. How much would you say that you sleep a day generally?

I think that I generally sleep only five to six hours a night, and that is usually during the week. The only day that I sleep longer than that is on Sundays. It's the one day that we don't have an overly busy schedule.

Being an older individual, I sleep anywhere from six to eight hours a night. However, I awaken repeatedly during the night for no apparent reason. My doctor says that this is normal for a person my age, it's just the way it is. I try to take a short nap during the day.

Adelaide, do you feel well refreshed even when you only get five to six hours a night? I know that sleeping too much causes a person to actually be tired and sleeping less may actually make people feel more refreshed. I just want to get the most out of my day and I feel like if I am well rested I will have a more productive day.

I sleep seven to eight hours a night, which works for me. I go to bed at the same time and wake up the same time in the morning. Keeping a schedule really helps to fend off fatigue during the day because I have gotten enough good rest. You can't keep changing your sleep patterns, either, it's unhealthy.

I try very hard to get at least 7 hours of sleep a day. The summer time seems to be more conducive to sleep as I tend to get more of it. I think it is because the kids are home and we have nowhere to go in the mornings!

This is an interesting topic and also is important in my opinion.
My wife has been ill for some years now and I have chosen to care for her here at home. She is happy to be here as well.
I think there is something to be said about trying to get ample sleep and it does affect me in negative ways when I fail to get enough healthy sleep. I have noticed that I don't really sleep sound like I did before I started caring for my wife. In my opinion, I am not getting enough sleep because I hear every little sound here in the house at night. Probably another reason is that I need to check on her before I can get back to sleep. So, in my case it is not the amount of sleep I get each night but that I never really reach the state of sleep my body wants. I spend at least 7-8 hours in bed. We both are thankful that we can be together.
